  Annual Queer Studies Summer School

Each summer the Queer Studies summer school will run for 10 days, for a minimum of 30 to a maximum of 100 Chinese graduate students. We want to invite at least two world-leading scholars from the West and four Chinese scholars locally each year to dialog with the students. Funding is needed for full coverage of transportation, logging, and food for all participants, and cost of books, including several sets of books to be given to libraries and resource centers in China. ITS will be the main coordinator for the project from US and Chinese Gender/Sexuality association will be the executive entity in China.

The school will focus on bringing students up to speed on history and foundations of gender and sexuality studies as well as the main root theories and their current applications. Dialogue between Chinese and western scholars will shape the relevant issues reflecting similarities and differences in cultures.

Each student is required to work in group- projects as well as produce writing journals that will eventually be edited into a collection of text, to be published and distributed around China. After a few years, a series of journal collections can be adopted as textbooks for future students and is valuable in documenting the growth of the field.

Each year, a handful (2 to 6) of outstanding students will be selected to receive winter scholarships to visit an institution in the West. The scholarship will cover travel, housing, food, and books expenses. Students are required to conduct original research and produce thesis based on their 2-month research in the west.
