Utah gets a "D" in dental care for kids | Standard-Examiner ...
(UNEDITED)I'm sure I wasn't alone in my disappointment upon reading the recent Pew Study for the States that indicated Utah received a "D" when it comes to keeping kids' teeth healthy.
According to the study, each year at least one in five children in the U.S. goes without proper dental care. In addition, children in most states, including Utah, don't have good access to preventive treatments like teeth cleaning, fluoride in the water or school-based programs in which protective coatings are applied to teeth.
Poor dental care damages more than a healthy smile. It leaves children susceptible to infection and disease that can affect sleep, schoolwork and other childhood activities.
The Regence Caring Foundation for Children wants to improve that "D" grade Utah received. We are a nonprofit organization that provides free dental care to children who are not eligible for government programs (such as Medicaid or SCHIP) and whose families do not have dental insurance.
